Life Change Guidance

Should I go back to my hometown?

How the I Ching Approaches This

The I Ching views returning home as a complex act that can mean very different things depending on what has changed — in you, in the place, and in the reasons for the return. Sometimes going back is a homecoming that reconnects you with your roots and provides exactly the foundation you need. Other times it's a regression that undoes the growth you've achieved away. The Oracle helps you see what this particular return would mean for your trajectory and whether the hometown you remember still exists.

Common Hexagram Patterns

Homecoming questions often draw hexagrams about return and cycles. Hexagram 24 (Return) appears when a natural cycle is bringing you back, but with new understanding. Hexagram 56 (The Wanderer) suggests you may not yet be ready to settle. Hexagram 12 (Standstill) warns that the place you're returning to may have stagnated. Hexagram 49 (Revolution) indicates that both you and your hometown have transformed — the return would be to something new.
